Vitamin D3 25 mcg (1000 IU)
Vitals vitamin D contains the most effective form of vitamin D, namely vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). Vitamin D increases the absorption of calcium in the bones and has a positive effect on the immune system.
Why Vitamin D?
As expected, RDAs and maximum allowable doses for vitamin D continue to rise. And that makes sense since higher doses of vitamin D are essential for good health and also very safe: on a sunny afternoon in July, for example, our body produces several hundred micrograms of vitamin D in full sun.
Vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin, is formed in the skin under the influence of ultraviolet light. But this only happens when the sun is high enough in the sky, which is only the case in the summer months and then only between about 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Outside this period, the amount of UV-B is too low for sufficient vitamin D production in our skin. In winter, no vitamin D is produced in the skin at all and we are therefore dependent on sufficient intake with food.
