Taurine
Taurine is an amino acid that can be produced by the body from cysteine. Taurine is found everywhere in the human body. Taurine is mainly found in protein-rich animal foods, such as meat, fish, shellfish, poultry and eggs. Milk and milk products are less rich in taurine.
Taurine is not found in vegetable protein: beans and nuts do not contain taurine, but they do contain methionine and cysteine, which can be converted into taurine in the body.
