Saffron, extracted from the styles and stigmas of the saffron crocus (Crocus sativus), is one of the oldest known and most precious spices. Because of its characteristic taste and color, it has been used in various world cuisines for more than 4,000 years. Moreover, it has traditionally been widely used for its healthy properties. For example, saffron is known to contribute to a positive state of mind.
Quality
Saffron has been called the "red gold" because of its preciousness. Unfortunately, the high price of raw materials leads to inferior quality saffron being offered on the market as well. The origin, purity and production method of saffron supplements is decisive for its quality and efficacy.
Saffron from Vitals contains the high-quality extract Affron®. Both the cultivation of the saffron and the manufacturing of the saffron extract take place at producer Pharmactive in Spain. The fact that the entire production chain is managed in-house means that ideal growing conditions can be ensured and quality can be guaranteed. The producer also has DNA testing done by an external party on their saffron as additional confirmation that Affron® is made from 100% real saffron.
Patented extraction method and composition
An extract standardized at 3.5% Lepticrosalides®, a patented complex of the most important active substances in saffron (such as safranal, crocin and picrocrocin), is obtained via a specially developed extraction method. These substances are responsible for the characteristic taste and color of saffron, among other things. A proper analytical method is of great importance to properly measure the active ingredients in a saffron extract and not get a distorted picture. It is quite unique for Affron ® to use the High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) analytical method.
Scientific Foundation
Producer Pharmactive has a very high regard for the scientific backing of its products. Affron® containing 3.5% Lepticrosalides is therefore used in scientific research, such as in a recent study in healthy adults in which the effect of supplementation with Affron® on mood was measured. For a positive effect on mood, in many cases a daily dose of 28 mg of Affron® appears to be sufficient.

The active ingredients of this product are certified to be of natural origin and not synthetically manufactured. The product has official EU Organic certification.
