Nicotinamide Riboside: the Newest Form

Namely, it is nicotinamide riboside that has the most special properties. It obviously has the vitamin B3 properties, which includes the production of NAD+. But the riboside form does this better than the other forms.

Niacinamide: the Most Used Form

The most commonly used vitamin B3 form is niacinamide. This form is inexpensive and suitable for virtually all health issues in which vitamin B3 plays a role.

Niacin and niacinamide

Quant to structure, there are similarities between niacin and niacinamide. The difference is that niacin is an acid and nicotinamide is an amide. Thus, they have different mechanisms of action. The Vitamin B3 properties have both of them.

Properties

Vitamin B3 contributes to the reduction of fatigue and tiredness and to normal psychological function. It contributes to learning performance and ability to learn and to the maintenance of normal mucous membranes and skin. Vitamin B3 also contributes to the proper functioning of the nervous system.

What is a Niacin Flush?

In physiological doses, niacin and niacinamide are interchangeable; however, in higher doses, niacin and niacinamide have different effects.

Niacin causes vasodilation (flush) and niacinamide does not have this effect.

Niacin in a dose above 50 mg can cause a "niacin flush" with reddening of face, arms and chest.

These symptoms usually last 30 minutes to an hour. This reaction can be severe, but is harmless and transient. No allergic reaction is involved.

A flush can be limited by gradually increasing the dose and combining niacin with a vitamin B complex and vitamin C. The niacin flush is also counteracted with quercetin, luteolin or apple pectin.
