Turmeric Turmeric supplement

New and much better absorbable extracts

Two major limitations in the use of Curcuma capsules ("Turmeric" or in English "Turmeric") are the poor absorbability of pure curcumin and its inactivation by the liver. With standard Curcuma extracts, the active curcuminoids are both poorly absorbed in the intestines and partly deactivated by the liver.

These are the main reasons for the poor absorption of pure curcumin.

Several raw material manufacturers have developed special extracts that are easy to absorb and that provide a higher blood level of active curcumin. Almost all the products in our range use one of these three patented superior extracts:

Meriva® extract

MerivaMeriva® Curcumin Phytosome® is a phytosome containing the three major curcuminoids. In phytosomes, the extract is bound to phosphatidylcholine (lecithin). This significantly improves absorption and action.

Meriva Curcumin is produced by the Italian company Indena. They are the forerunner in the field of phytosome herbal extracts. The use of Meriva Curcumin is often chosen in scientific research.

Cureit® CNTM extract

Cureit logoCureit is the very latest turmeric supplement. It was developed by Aurea Biolabs. This particular extract contains a much higher percentage of curcumin than standard turmeric powder but with the complete turmeric matrix in addition.

This means it contains all the active ingredients of turmeric instead of just the curcuminoids. This makes Cureit the only turmeric supplement in the world with a high dose of curcuminoids plus all other active ingredients.

After all, curcumin may be the best-known active ingredient in turmeric. But it is not the only active ingredient. In addition to curcumin, there are dozens of other substances in turmeric that have been shown to be responsible for its effects.

These include specific turmeric proteins, turmerin (a peptide), turmerones (essential oils), sesquiterpenes, polysaccharides and soluble dietary fiber. Research shows that using only curcumin is effective. But when a turmeric extract is used in which other substances from turmeric are also present, the effect was even significantly stronger.

And these active turmeric constituents not only have beneficial effects themselves, but they also promote the absorption of curcumin into the body.

Longvida® Curcumin SLCP extract

Longvida SLCPLongvida Optimized Curcumin is a curcuma extract that is packaged in a fatty particle. The "packaging" is done during the US-based Verdure Sciences' patented SLCP manufacturing process in collaboration with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The packaged Curcumin is absorbed in its entirety by the gut and reaches the bloodstream via the lymphatic system. This method provides the highest blood levels of free curcumin. This allows Longvida SLCP to easily cross the blood-brain barrier.

Do not use Curcumin with Black Pepper

Turmeric with black pepper (piperine) was one of the first attempts to promote the absorption of curcumin. However, its absorption is only slightly better than a standard supplement. But not nearly as good as the special extracts listed above (Meriva, Longvida).

In addition, black pepper reduces the metabolism in the liver of certain drugs and other substances that the body actually wants to get rid of. This can affect the effect of medications and therefore we strongly advise against it.

The use of the above curcumin supplements is significantly better in all cases. The experiences of our customers with these superior extracts are also extremely positive.

What is Curcumin

Curcumin is the active ingredient in Turmeric. It is a herb or spice that comes from the root of the Curcuma longa plant. This plant has strong similarities to the ginger plant. It thrives best in subtropical and humid climates and is mainly grown in southwest India.

Curcuma has many names. In Dutch it is usually called Geelwortel or Kurkuma and formerly called Koenier. Turmeric is the English name and in India it is called Koenjit.

The spice has extensive and widespread use as a strong aromatic spice in cooking. It is an ingredient of curry powder (curry) and gives it its specific yellow color. It is also used as a dye to give other food products a yellow color.

Curcuma powder

In addition, it has been used for centuries in traditional Asian medicine. That use has spread throughout the rest of the world and today Curcuma is probably the most widely used herb for health applications. There is also widespread research on its effects on our health.

The active substances in Curcuma are the so-called curcuminoids. The most important of these is curcumin. The others are demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin. A curcuma extract consists of at least 80% curcumin.

What is the best way to take it?

Curcuma is best taken with a high-fat meal to improve absorption. It does not matter what time of day.

How long should I use it?

You can use it completely safely for long periods of time. It is best to use Curcuma for at least several months consecutively for maximum results. High doses can also be used as a cure.

Does curcuma have side effects?

No. There are no side effects associated with using Curcuma and it can be used safely by almost anyone. However, people with gallbladder problems should avoid using it.

Are there any drug interactions?

In 2009, the European Medicines Agency published a monograph (detailed study) on turmeric. This monograph does not contain drug interactions. However, this does not mean that interactions are not possible. Therefore, always consult your treating physician first.
