Trimethylglycine TMG supplement

What are TMG supplements?

TMG stands for Trimethylglycine, also known as betaine, a naturally occurring compound found in a variety of foods such as beets, spinach and whole grains.

What does TMG do?

TMG supplements have been shown to have a beneficial effect on homocysteine levels, a substance suspected of having an important impact on our health.

How does it work?

TMG supplements work by supporting the methylation cycle in the body. This cycle is important for numerous biological processes, such as the synthesis of neurotransmitters, DNA and proteins. By supporting the methylation cycle, TMG supplements help maintain healthy homocysteine levels.

TMG sources

Important sources of TMG include fish, beets, broccoli, spinach and legumes. Daily dietary intake of TMG ranges between 0,5 and 2 grams per day. TMG can be formed from choline in the liver.

Much of the available choline, however, is used for other processes in the body. Consider: the formation of phosphatidylcholine (membrane component), sphingomyelin and the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.
