Taurine supplements are used for many different purposes. Although this amino acid can also be found in energy drinks, it is a very safe substance with no side effects.
What is Taurine?
Taurine is an amino acid that can be produced by the body from cysteine. It is found everywhere in the human body. In the diet, it is found mainly in protein-rich animal foods, such as meat, fish, shellfish, poultry and eggs.
Milk and milk products are less rich in taurine. It is not found in plant protein: beans and nuts do not contain it, but methionine and cysteine, which can be converted to taurine in the body.
