SAMe supplement

What is SAMe?

S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) is a compound naturally produced by the body. It is involved in the production of DNA and RNA, phospholipids, carnitine, taurine, cysteine, creatine, polyamines, hormones and neurotransmitters, among other things.

SAMe is made primarily in the liver from the essential amino acid methionine and ATP (adenosine triphosphate).

Co-factors

For SAMe to work properly, vitamin B12, Vitamin B6 and Folic acid are required.

Does SAMe have side effects?

SAMe supplements are generally considered safe when taken as directed. However, some people may experience side effects such as nausea, diarrhea and headache. SAMe may also interact with certain medications, including antidepressants and Parkinson's disease medications. Therefore, always use SAMe in consultation with your doctor when taking medications.
