What is Rhodiola rosea?
Rhodiola rosea (rose root) is from the Crassulaceae family and the root has a strong rose-like scent, hence Rosea. The plant grows in the cold parts of the world, including much of the Arctis, the mountains of Central Asia, the Rocky Mountains and mountainous parts of Europe, such as the Alps, Pyrenees, Carpathians, Scandinavia, Iceland, Britain and Ireland.
Can I grow Rhodiola myself?
Technically you can, but it takes at least 5 years for the Rhodiola plant to be ready to harvest. In addition, the active compounds occur in much higher levels in wild Rhodiola.
What is Salidroside?
Salidroside (Rhodioloside) is a glucoside of tyrosol found in the Rhodiola rosea plant. It is one of the active substances in the root that provides the positive effects of Rhodiola. Most products contain only the rosavins, but some studies indicate a broader and stronger effect when salidroside is also used.
What is Rosavin?
Rosavin is a cinnamyl alcohol glycoside found in the Rhodiola rosea plant. It is the most active substance in the root and, along with salidroside, is used for its adaptogenic effects.
What part of the Rhodiola plant is used?
Rhodiola extracts are made from the thick fragrant roots of the plant.
Can anyone use Rhodiola and is it safe?
Yes, Rhodiola is very safe and has no interactions with mainstream medications. It can be used for general support in stress situations (adaptogen), but also as a therapeutic agent for strong symptoms of mood.
Rhodiola has a particularly low toxicity and almost never side effects. Safety has been tested with doses up to 235,000 mg for a human, where most daily doses are 500 mg. So compared to many other supplements, this is one of the safest.
What is an adaptogen?
An adaptogen is a substance that helps the body cope better with changes, such as stress, sadness or fatigue. Herbs that have these properties help your body adapt quickly to new circumstances.
Has Rhodiola been scientifically studied?
