Vitamin B3

Nicotinamide Riboside is the newest form of vitamin B3. In our diet, vitamin B3 occurs in several forms: as niacin, niacinamide (nicotinamide) and as nicotinamide riboside.

Progenitor of NAD+

This last and most special form has only been available as a supplement for a few years. It has all the properties of the other forms of vitamin B3 and in addition it has some special properties that the other forms do not have. For example, it is easily converted into the important NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide). NAD+ is essential for energy metabolism in our body.

Niagen®

Another patented form of Nicotinamide Riboside is Niagen®. Under the product name Tru-Niagen®, it is marketed by patent holder ChromaDex, but Niagen® is also found in products from other brands, such as those from Life Extension.

Nicotinamide Riboside: the Newest Form

Nicotinamide riboside (NR) has its own unique properties in addition to vitamin B3 properties that distinguish it from both niacin and nicotinamide. NR is most effective at increasing NAD⁺ levels, but also most effective at activating sirtuins. Sirtuins are specific proteins that can extend cell life.

Sales of NMN not allowed within Europe

We receive many questions as to why we do not carry the substance Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN). The reason is that its sale is not permitted within Europe. In order to ensure consumer safety, further research on this substance is necessary. It is offered on several online outlets for consumers but these sales are not legal.

For now, Nicotinamide Riboside is the most effective and safe form on the market.

What is NAD+?

NAD⁺ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a crucial coenzyme that every living cell in your body needs to support cellular energy production, as well as cellular repair and defense processes.

Niacin, nicotinamide and nicotinamide riboside are the precursors, in other words the building blocks to produce NAD+. These precursors undergo a series of chemical conversions that result in the production of NAD⁺.

The various Vitamin B3 compounds are all very similar yet molecularly structurally unique and are therefore processed by the body in different ways.

Very interesting is the question of how to maximize the body's production of our cellular energy. Scientists worldwide are actively investigating how to increase NAD in the body.

History NAD

In 1906, NAD was discovered by Arthur Harden and William John Young. This was preceded by Louis Pasteur's demonstration that through fermentation in yeast whereby energy is generated that this process is similar to metabolic processes in the body.

Vitamin B3 in the Nicotinamide riboside form was not discovered until the 1940s. However, it wasn't until 2004 that its ability to increase levels of NAD⁺ was discovered.
