What's different about Multivitamins for Women?
Multivitamins for women are very much the same as “regular” multivitamins; they contain all of the vitamins and minerals, but the dosage of some of them is different, making them often, but certainly not always, even better for women's health.
Good multivitamins provide good immunity, healthy skin and have a beneficial effect on overall health.
Mostly similar to “regular” multivitamins
Most multivitamins for women contain the same vitamins and minerals in fairly equal dosages. And because women also take in vitamins and minerals through diet and this can varie substantially from woman to woman, women can often very well use the same multivitamin as men.
And depending on the level of dietary intake of the various nutrients, you can decide to add a separate iron or folic acid supplement. But often this is not necessary at all.
Better take a normal multivitamin
And in many cases, it is actually much better for women not to take a women's multivitamin. Women who get enough iron from their diet are better off not taking a a high-dose multivitamin for women because they will be taking a higher dose of iron than they actually need.
The higher requirement of iron for women is limited. In fact, the recommended dosage of iron for women is only slightly higher than for men.
For most nutrients, we can take more of them than we need without any problems, but this is not true for iron.
When we ingest more iron than we need, the iron excess leads to the formationof free radicals. Iron is an oxidant (the opposite of antioxidant) and damages the body even in slightly higher doses than we need daily.
A “regular” multivitamin is also sufficient for normal hormone balance, provided its quality ishigh enough. In case of hormone-related discomforts, it is much more effective to use a separate formula supplement for the hormones in addition to your good multivitamin. That is more effective than a “women's multi” that has a few low-dose botanicals added to it.
During pregnancy, on the other hand, the iron requirement is considerably higher. Then it is important to take a multivitamin that contains sufficient iron.
Before Menopause

Folic acid is essential for the prevention of neural tube defects in fetuses, while iron helps prevent anemia. Calcium and vitamin D are crucial for the development of the baby's skeleton and the health of the mother's bones.
Just before and during pregnancy and during the breastfeeding period, we do recommend taking a special pregnancy multivitamin. This is because the need for iron particularly during this period is significantly higher.
After menopause
Bones: After menopause, women have an increased risk of osteoporosis because of the decrease in estrogen, which helps maintain bone density.
