Supplements for Men
Men are biologically different from women. For example, men have more muscle mass and less fat tissue than women, therefore men generally need more energy. Men's hormone balance is also different from that of women. Furthermore, some disease processes occur differently in a man's body than in a woman's body, because the metabolism of women and men also runs differently.
It should therefore come as no surprise that nutrient requirements are also different in men and women, and thus vitamin and mineral requirements.
Energy
Because of the higher energy requirements, men can use some more B vitamins in addition to a multi as a base under certain circumstances. B vitamins individually each have their own functions in the body but collectively they play a major role in metabolism. For example, vitamins B1, B3, B5, B7 and B12 all contribute to normal energy metabolism.
Muscles
For building and maintaining muscle tissue, the body needs vitamins and minerals for the various muscle processes in addition to the building blocks protein and amino acids. Also check out our page for athletes for more information on supplements for muscle.
Prostate and fertility
Healthy sperm is indispensable for men who want to become fathers. The minerals zinc and selenium contribute to men's fertility. Zinc also supports the maintenance of normal testosterone levels in the blood.
With advancing age, the size of the prostate also gradually increases. This need not cause problems, but in some men it can cause lower urinary tract complaints. There are supplements with herbal extracts specifically aimed at maintaining good prostate function*.
Libido
With advancing age, disease or certain medications, men may experience limitations in normal sexual function. For many men, this is not only a physical discomfort, but also has mental consequences such as embarrassment and reduced self-confidence.
Happily, there are companies that take advantage of these feelings and offer products that promise all kinds of things, but cannot deliver and are even unsafe. Our libido page features reliable supplements and additional lifestyle advice.
