What is Maca?
Maca comes from the high Andes Mountains in Peru. Although this plant has been used by indigenous people for more than two thousand years, it has only recently been known in the Western world.
Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is the only cruciferous plant native to Peru. Maca is a plant with a rosette of leaves that grow close to the ground. The plant produces a tulip-like "hypocotyl" that matures in about seven months. One finds them in different colors of which the yellow variety is most commonly cultivated because of the strength of the active substances. The root of the maca is dried before it can be used.
Maca is one of the most popular supplements for libido and sexual function.*
