L-Methionine

Methionine is an essential amino acid. It is a precursor substance (precursor) to cysteine, taurine and glutathione. Methionine not used for protein synthesis can be converted, by reaction with ATP, into SAMe.

In the body, methionine is made from homocysteine but because methionine is greatly needed and is rapidly consumed, it is classified as an essential amino acid. Thus, it is necessary to get methionine through diet or supplementation.

Food sources of Methionine are eggs, fish, meat, sesame seeds and Brazil nuts. In legumes it is found very little, in vegetables and fruits almost none.
