The use of vitamin K is always recommended, but is even more important when taking calcium supplements. Vitamin K is needed for the transport of calcium out of the blood vessels and into the bones.
Calcium-magnesium with zinc, what's it good for?
The supplements on this page fall into 3 groups:
- products containing only calcium and magnesium
- products containing calcium and magnesium plus one other mineral. That is usually zinc or boron.
The primary reason for the existence of calcium-magnesium supplements is that most multivitamins do not contain enough of these substances because it simply does not fit into 1-2 capsules or tablets. If you use such a multi, a "Cal-Mag" supplement is a good and sensible addition.
The combination of calcium-magnesium with zinc, however, is less obvious. There is sufficient Zinc in most multivitamins and use of a calcium-magnesium-zinc supplement is therefore only advisable when the multi you are using contains a low dose of Zinc (for example, 2.5 mg).
