The liver and pancreas play an important role in keeping blood sugar levels constant.
In the pancreas lie the islets of Langerhans. These produce insulin and glucagon, these two hormones are antagonists of each other that affect glucose metabolism. They are delivered to the blood.
Insulin and Glucagon
Glucagon raises blood sugar levels by converting glycogen which is stored in the liver. Insulin actually promotes in the liver and muscles the conversion of glucose to glycogen. Moreover, insulin stimulates the uptake of glucose by the cells. Its antagonistic action causes the glucose concentration to fluctuate between certain limits.
Important for overall health is to take good care of blood sugar levels. You can do this primarily by using pure non-processed foods as much as possible and limiting the number of eating occasions, i.e., not consuming them throughout the day.
