Bergamot Extract supplement

Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) is best known for its distinctive flavor and fragrance in Earl Grey tea, but has been used for centuries for other uses.

Bergamot is rich in flavonoids and polyphenols, plant compounds that both have strong antioxidant properties.

What is Bergamot?

Bergamot (Latin name Citrus bergamia) is a small citrus fruit that grows in Italy. Bergamot oil has a special and distinctive aroma, deliciously fresh and a little peppery. It gives the characteristic aroma and flavor to Earl Grey tea and is also widely used in perfumes or as an essential oil. But bergamot has even more uses.

Like all citrus fruits, Bergamot is rich in vitamins - vitamin C, of course - and minerals, but it also contains significant amounts of flavonoids and polyphenols, phytochemicals that both have strong antioxidant properties. A little healthy fruit, in other words. Unfortunately, because really good bergamot only grows in a relatively small area, it is not a fruit you will find at the grocery store around the corner.

Bergamot supplements

Because of its rich phytochemical composition, bergamot has recently been sold in supplement form. Often in combination with other herbs such as berberine which has a beneficial effect on cholesterol levels*.

No side effects are known from bergamot.

Bergamot Phytosome

Also the Italian company Indena saw good use for this particular fruit. Indena is founder of the phytosome technique, in which difficult-to-absorb plant substances are linked to lipids, making them many times better absorbed in the human body.

With Vazguard®, they have developed a wonderful new phytosome ingredient, with the same unique phytochemical profile as natural bergamot juice, but much more absorbable than ordinary bergamot extract.
