Astragalus supplement

What is Astragalus?

Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus) falls under the group of adaptogenic herbs known from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Adaptogenic substances respond to the needs of the body by restoring balance in cases of physical and mental stress. It is also commonly used in orthomolecular therapies because of its valuable properties.

The Chinese name is huang qi.

The effect of Astragalus

Astragalus is very rich in bioactive substances. The active ingredients are polysaccharides, saponins and flavonoids which groups all three have a positive effect on the immune system*. They also contribute to the normal functioning of healthy heart and blood vessels and to normal blood pressure*.

Extracts from the root of the plant are used for supplements. Among other things, the root contains cycloastragenol, a substance that is currently the subject of much scientific research. Astragalus supplements are available in the form of powder, capsules and tinctures.

In combination with echinacea, it is often used because of its effect on the lungs and airways in general.
