Artichoke extract is very healthy, it contains caffeoylquinic acid which is good for a normal cholesterol level*.

It also supports the liver and bile function because it has a positive influence has on the glutathione content of the liver. And through its influence on bile function, Artichoke also promotes normal bile function digestion*.

Active Ingredients

Artichoke contains several active ingredients. Caffeoylquinic acid is the most important of these. Other active ingredients are chlorogenic acid, cynaropicrin and cynarin.

Side effects

Artichoke is very healthy and has never led to dangerous side effects with normal use.

But people with a known allergy to other plants in the Asteraceae family, such as daisies, sunflowers, and chrysanthemums, may be at a higher risk of an allergic reaction to artichoke.

Taking very large amounts of artichoke can also lead to stomach complaints, such as bloating, gas, or diarrhea in some people. This is because artichoke contains inulin, an admittedly healthy soluble dietary fiber, but which in some cases can lead to these mild side effects if the intake is too high.

Artichoke supplements

Most artichoke pills are in capsule form. These are easily absorbed and easy to swallow, much easier than tablets.

There is also a tincture with drops, the Vitakruid Mariadistel Complex, which except for milk thistle also contains artichoke and celandine.

What is artichoke?

Artichokes are the edible flower buds of the artichoke, a plant from the thistle family with the Latin name Cynara scolymus.
