Bonusan nutritional supplements

Since summer 2022, Smeets & Graas has been selling Bonusan's assortment and we may call ourselves Approved Bonusan Specialist (no: 32807229).

Bonusan is one of the oldest and still independent supplement companies in the Netherlands with an extensive line of nutritional supplements and herbs produced largely in-house. They offer a wide range of over 350 specialty supplements, from phytotherapy to orthomolecular products, developed for and in collaboration with health professionals.

The Bonusan company

Bonusan is a family business, founded in 1966 in Numansdorp, South Holland. This is where they are still located today, 3 generations later. It began as a typical pharmacy with cabinets full of herbs and herbal blends. At the time, the pure plant extracts were still extracted into herbal teas and tinctures. Later Bonusan managed to capture them in capsules and tablets.

"Nature is one big pharmacy"

The founders have a background in phytotherapy (herbal medicine) and naturopathy and they have been working from the beginning to spread knowledge and the latest scientific insights. The efficacy of the supplements is scientifically based and inspired by nature and the workings of our bodies.

Their dream: "To make the world a healthier place by looking at health more broadly."

Optimal absorption and efficacy

Bonusan stays as close as possible to nature with its supplements to ensure optimal absorption and efficacy. This means that they prefer to use cofactors that improve the absorption and action of a nutrient. They also tend to use organically bound minerals and trace elements, as these are more absorbable than non-organic compounds.

Own factory and laboratory

Product safety is at the forefront of everything Bonusan does. There are strict quality requirements and part of that are regular production tests. This ensures purity and efficacy.

Application in scientific research

The supplements of Bonusan are regularly used in scientific clinical (human) research. Bonusan attaches great value to the scientific foundation of the operation of its products, which is why it has its own Research & Development department.

Natura Foundation: knowledge and training institute

The founder's grandson founded his own independent knowledge and training institute in 1999: Natura Foundation. Even back then, Bonusan saw it as its mission to share and apply the latest insights and knowledge about health.

Today, Natura Foundation has become the knowledge institute for orthomolecular, nutritional medicine and clinical Psycho-Neuro-Immunology (kPNI). Over the past 20 years, the institute has trained more than 6,000 therapists.

Minimal use of excipients

Sometimes adjuvants are needed to ensure that a substance behaves as desired. Preferably Bonusan does not use any excipients, but where necessary they choose natural and herbal excipients as much as possible.

Free of unnecessary additives and allergens

Bonusan does not use unnecessary additives such as sugars, synthetic colors, flavors and fragrances and GMOs (genetically modified organisms). They also try to avoid allergens and animal substances as much as possible.

Company premises have energy label A+

The premises are equipped with various sustainable techniques that minimize environmental impact. The climate system (which provides a good indoor environment for the production process) works with geothermal heat and cooling, and the ventilation system is equipped with a heat recovery system. The lighting is controlled with sensors to keep waste as low as possible and the building is equipped with HR++ solar insulating glazing.
